Layouts

The next thing we had to do with our work, once we had reproduced our shape 30 different ways, was to select and arrange specific pieces of work that matched the criteria. We had four topics, which we had to choose 2, and our selection of work had to represent this topic. The topics were subject, process, narrative and preference.

Subject – these two I picked because there were the complete opposites. One speech bubble is LOUD, in your face and makes you think that this person is shouting something at you. Whereas the smaller speech bubble in the bottom corner, is a timid whisper of a shy and quiet person. I arranged the two this way because I almost wanted people to completely overlook and ignore the smaller one in the bottom corner, and all their attention to be focused on the louder bubble. Which is exactly what people did, and then they’d suddenly realise and go ‘awwww, I completely didn’t notice that one!’

Narrative – I selected these bubbles and arranged them in this way so it would go from quieter to louder as you followed the bubbles upwards. So at the bottom you have the bubble that has been taped up, so the person cannot speak or say anything, then a tiny whisper…. Getting louder and louder, into shouting, and then at the top there are lots of people talking at once.
